:: Understanding Health Improvement ::

In order to build the health improvement knowledge and skills of frontline staff the Public Health Directorate of NHS North Yorkshire and York became a registered centre for the delivery of the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) accredited Level 2 Understanding Health Improvement course in October 2007.  Between then and September 2010 the Health Improvement team have delivered 10 courses and trained 149 frontline staff from a wide variety of organisations such as the youth service, army welfare, NHS, district councils, community and voluntary organisations.  The training enables participants to deliver opportunistic advice and signposting on healthy lifestyles within their existing roles.

Unfortunately there is no longer funding available to run these free courses.  A one day ‘Promoting Health and Well-being course’ is available through the Altogether Better  programme within the project’s target areas.

There is also an NHS Yorkshire and Humber Behaviour Change Training Course Compendium which provides details of behaviour change training available across the region; for further information please contact georgina.wilkinson@nyypct.nhs.uk Alternatively the PHORCaST website (www.phorcast.org.uk) is the online resource for careers, skills and training within public health.

:: Stop Smoking ::
